Wreaths of Honor honors the deceased soldiers from Arkansas
Little Rock, Arkansas – This morning, community members and family members gathered at the Arkansas State Cemetery in North Little Rock for the annual Wreaths of Honor ceremony.
More than four hundred volunteers created and laid almost 8,000 wreaths at the headstones.
The state veteran’s cemetery foundation planned today’s event, which was held at the Arkansas Department of Veteran’s Affairs.
According to Andrea Fisher of the Arkansas Veterans Cemetery Foundations, it is the organization’s duty to remember the deceased over the holiday season.
“We have a lot of family members that don’t live close to the cemetery, so it is our responsibility to take the time and honor them and place a wreath for the holiday season, and we also invite the children,” Fisher said. “We want this to be an educational opportunity as well, just to remember our veterans and the sacrifices they made.”
The 82-acre cemetery is now undergoing a major expansion.
The Attorney General’s office confirmed last week that the cemetery will get a $250,000 grant.
