Little Rock, Arkansas – With plans to accept its first class this summer, Arkansas’s first dentistry school has obtained its initial accreditation.

After being accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation, the Lyon College School of Dental Medicine will enroll 80 students in June. It will be situated in the Riverdale neighborhood’s Riverfront Plaza.

According to school officials, the seven-story institution will include classrooms, a clinic on campus, and a three-year curriculum that combines hands-on patient care with simulation training. According to officials, the on-site clinic will focus on providing services for children, the elderly, and those with special needs.

Dr. Soffe stated, “Our patient care clinic will be an essential asset for Arkansas, guaranteeing access to high-quality dental services for thousands of residents annually.” “This clinic will also serve as an excellent training ground for our students, preparing them to deliver compassionate care throughout their careers, with a particular focus on serving vulnerable populations, including children, the elderly, and those with special needs.”

In July 2024, college officials staged a groundbreaking ceremony for the new institution.

Leaders from Little Rock and the state of Arkansas have sent their congratulations and encouragement. With a $15 million federal appropriation to the dentistry school, Sen. John Boozman helped solve the state’s scarcity of dental professionals.
