Organizer of Mayflower bonfire addresses violence following tragic shooting incident
Faulkner County, Arkansas – Authorities from the Faulkner County Sheriff’s Department are actively looking into a shooting incident that occurred early this morning at a park on White City Road, located near Mayflower.
Darrius Stubbs, who organized the bonfire where the shooting occurred, expressed his desire to keep gun violence out of the event.
“Hearing those gunshots ring out, especially with so many people around, is truly terrifying,” Stubbs remarked.
This marks his fourth occasion organizing the bonfire, and for the first time, violence has broken out this year.
“It was devastating for me because I was right there, at the gate, and I had to crawl under my truck out of fear from all the gunfire,” Stubbs shared.
He stated that they explicitly communicated that firearms were prohibited, yet that was insufficient.
“We have signs indicating no guns, emphasizing no gun violence; that was prominently featured on the flyers,” Stubbs stated.
Stubbs expresses condolences for the victim who lost their life and announces that he will cease hosting bonfires moving forward.
“I sincerely apologize, and I understand that it’s difficult. I’ve really been reflecting on it this morning,” Stubbs expressed.
The FCSO is calling on anyone who may have information that could assist with this investigation to step forward.
