Declared a State of Emergency by the City of Marianna because of a “troubling increase in gun violence”
Little Rock, Arkansas – The Marianna city council declared a state of emergency this weekend in response to what the police are describing as “a significant and troubling increase in gun violence within our community.” As a result, the city is operating under curfew.
The Marianna City Council, in coordination with the Lee County Sheriff’s Department, the Arkansas State Police, and the City of Marianna Police Department, reached this decision.
The Marianna Police Department stated that “a significant and troubling increase in gun violence within our community” was the reason behind the decision in a statement on their Facebook page.
The State of Emergency will be in effect from Friday, March 29 at 8 p.m. to Sunday, March 31 at midnight. It will be 52 hours long in all.
According to the city, Marianna residents will be impacted in three main ways:
• Curfew: Mandatory curfew for non-essential personnel will be enforced from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m.
• Public Gatherings: All public gatherings, including outdoor events, are suspended during this period.
• Increased Law Enforcement: There will be an increased presence of law enforcement and emergency personnel.
All residents are asked to stay inside during curfew hours, according to the post.
The police request that any crises or suspicious activity be reported to them at 870-295-2508.
