Parkinson’s patients can attend free art therapy courses at UAMS this autumn
Little Rock, Arkansas – According to a press release, the University of Arkansas for Medical Science Movement Disorder Clinic will be providing free art therapy courses for Parkinson’s disease patients this fall in Little Rock and Hot Springs.
The sessions are set to take place on Oct. 11, Nov. 15, and Dec. 13 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Little Rock and on Oct. 13 at FBC Fitness in Hot Springs, according to a news release from UAMS.
“Parkinson’s disease is a progressive nervous system disorder affecting dopamine-producing areas in the brain. It is the second most common neurodegenerative disease in the United States and affects about 6,500 people in Arkansas,” said UAMS in a news release. ” Research has shown that drawing or painting may help Parkinson’s patients improve their motor skills, and patients have reported that it helps them control their tremors.”
The 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. seminars will have a virtual component, and registration is necessary to participate.
