Act4Sherwood gets enough signatures to appear on the ballot in November

Little Rock, Arkansas – In the ongoing conflict between Sherwood’s north and south, the group Act4Sherwood has amassed enough signatures thanks to group efforts.

Voters will have the final say on a ruling that has placed the municipality in a perpetual bind when it is admitted to the ballot in November.

Large businesses are allowed to sell alcohol off-site on one end, notably the south.

But the act is forbidden on the north side of town.

The economy of the area has been impacted by the continued division, which has an impact on Sherwood residents.

A citizen-led initiative called Act4Sherwood was started by residents of North Sherwood with the goal of resolving the wet and dry law disagreement.

Act4Sherwood member Monica Treat described half of Sherwood as “economically depressed” as a result of a 1956 law.

Act 671, a piece of legislation passed in April 2023, provided the impetus for the group’s effort to overturn the existing law.

Mayor Mary Jo Heye-Townsell claims that the act’s passing gives locals the ability to contest and change the existing legislation.

“What this bill does is it gives Sherwood one opportunity, one opportunity to have a resident-led initiative where Sherwood gets to vote on what is controlled in Sherwood.” “[The new law] brings the vote totals down to 4,000 versus 15,000.”

In reaction to the authorization of the signatures, Act4Sherwood issued the following statement today: “The Act4Sherwood Committee is thrilled about the upcoming General Election vote now that this important subject is finally on the ballot. We owe a great deal to our group of volunteers who braved the summer heat to knock on doors in order to do this, and we are sincerely grateful to the residents of North Sherwood for their support of the petition efforts. And they completed it.”

“The Act4Sherwod Committee is dedicated to exerting maximum political pressure to guarantee the approval of this community-based proposal. A general election campaign should be anticipated by all.”

“Now, our campaign must connect the people’s awareness of our Act4Sherwood effort they wholeheartedly supported by signing the petitions with the ballot title they will see at the polls, which by state law specifying ballot titles, cannot include the Act4Sherwood name.”

“This is the moment before the moment for us, but the Act4Sherwood Committee is committed to getting this done.”
