Apartment building in Little Rock celebrates successful ownership transition

Little Rock, Arkansas – A once-struggling Little Rock apartment building has recently celebrated two years of improvement.

We were informed that Madison Heights Apartments were dangerous and having financial difficulties prior to the new owners taking over. Now, the situation is very different.

“The conditions out here in the community were bad,” said Eric Jordan.

He has been a resident of the apartment building for five years and said that prior to the new property owners, the living conditions were only fair.

“I think one of the big problems that we’ve had with some of the other complexes as the management team was usually in Dallas, Chicago, places like that,” said Lee Anthony, Vice President of Central Arkansas Housing Co-op.

Two years ago, Central Arkansas Housing Co-op gained control. They came to the conclusion that the neighborhood needed to take action.

“Knowing the folk in the community. We are a part of this community. We don’t just collect rent, we are a resource for our residents,” said Leta Anthony, President of Central Arkansas Housing Co-op.

Given that the facility is situated in a food desert with limited access to fresh and handmade food, such resources are extremely crucial.

They also see to it that maintenance is done fast and the grounds are maintained tidy.

With the land they own behind the complex, the property managers now have a significant project they hope to finish in the future: a neighborhood.

“We want to put people back on the porch. That is one of the great contributors of public safety. Building houses that have yards and people who are on the porch making sure residents and those children play in a safe environment,” said Anthony.
