Gov. Huckabee Sanders hosts a roundtable discussion with the mayor of LR and law enforcement
Little Rock, Arkansas – In order to lessen crime and violence in Little Rock, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders hosted a roundtable discussion on Thursday.
Alexa Henning, Sanders’ spokesperson, issued the following statement:
“Today, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders held a roundtable discussion focused on reducing violence in Little Rock with local law enforcement and nonprofit leaders, including Colonel Mike Hagar, Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott, North Little Rock Mayor Terry Hartwick, Pulaski County Sheriff Eric Higgins, and Dushun Scarbrough, executive director of the MLK Jr. Commission. The group discussed ways to end the crime wave plaguing our capital city by supporting our brave men and women of law enforcement and shutting the revolving door in our prisons, while also helping those incarcerated overcome addiction with mental health treatment, faith-based programs, and workforce development.”
“As 70% of those incarcerated cannot read at a fourth-grade level, the group also emphasized the need for education reform and thanked the Governor for her commitment to improving literacy rates in Arkansas. The Governor said this is only the start of coordination and cooperation between these officials – and the first of many conversations – as the group works together to empower Arkansans with a safer, stronger capital city.”
