Little Rock has reached its highest level of homicides since 1993 with its 70th murder so far this year

Little Rock, Arkansas – After a shooting early Sunday morning, this year has now tied the record for the highest number of homicides in the city at 70.

According to the report from the Little Rock Police Department, David Royal, 34 years old, from Jacksonville, was the victim of the shooting.

When police arrived at the scene of the incident at 6 York Drive at 2:02 in the morning, they found Royal suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.

Royal was unable to overcome his injuries and passed away at the site.

According to the Little Rock Police Department, Avreyon Carter, 40, of Little Rock has been arrested in connection to the killing of Royal.

Carter has been accused of committing murder in the first degree.

With the 70th homicide committed in 2022, Little Rock has surpassed the previous record high of homicides, which was achieved in 1993, during a time when the city was plagued by gang violence.

The number of homicides in the city of Little Rock has been continuously climbing over the past five years, reaching a peak of 42 in 2018.

With an average of 6.7 murders each month so far in 2018, it is quite possible that the number of killings in Little Rock will reach an all-time high in the year 2022.
