Root Café, located in the SoMa neighborhood of Little Rock, has been awarded a nationwide grant of fifty thousand dollars

Little Rock, Arkansas – The farm-to-table café located in the trendy SoMa district of Little Rock, Arkansas, has been awarded a national grant in recognition of its distinguishing characteristics.

The Backing Historic Small Restaurants initiative, which is sponsored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and American Express, distributed a grant of fifty thousand dollars to the Root Café, which is located in the SoMa neighborhood. Among the fifty eateries around the nation that were awarded this honor, The Root Cafe was one of them.

The funding recognizes the farm-to-table enterprise that CAFE The Root now operates. According to representatives of the restaurant, seventy-five percent of the café’s food budget is spent locally, and seventy-five percent of the ingredients on the menu come from farmers and producers located all across the state of Arkansas. The Root Cafe is now in the top half of one percent of farm-to-table restaurants across the country as a result of this.

The funding will be used to beautify and improve the exterior of the building, according to officials with the restaurant. These improvements will include the installation of new windows that are more energy efficient, the application of fresh paint, the updating of the patio, the restoration of lighting, and the installation of new signage.

“The Root Cafe’s commitment and mission manifests in one of SoMa’s defining and cornerstone businesses,” SoMa 501 Little Rock, Inc. executive director Elizabeth Michael said. “With preservation in the DNA of SoMa 501’s mission, we look forward to The Root’s historic building improvements.”

At the intersection of 15th and Main Street, in the building that formerly housed Sweden Crème Restaurant, The Root Cafe is celebrating its thirteenth year of operation. The opening of a second site in Breckenridge Village, which is located west of Little Rock, is scheduled to take place later this year.

Backing Historic Small Restaurants is a grant program that is administered by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. This year’s grantees were chosen from a collection of restaurants that operate in historic buildings or neighborhoods and provide cultural relevance to the communities in which they are located.

One of the initiatives that American Express is working on is called “Backing Historic Small Restaurants.” This effort is centered on providing financial support and resources to small businesses in order to assist them in meeting vital demands.
