The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra expands its activities by moving into Little Rock’s East Village District
Little Rock, Arkansas – On Saturday, the Stella Boyle Smith Music Center’s official opening was commemorated by the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. The occasion contributed to the hundreds of visitors that the East Village saw.
The 20,000 square foot, $11.75 million building in Little Rock will provide chances for music instruction and performance, acting as an Arkansas musical hub.
“I think there are countless opportunities for our community,” stated Christina Littlejohn, CEO of ASO.
The goal of the music center is to give locals of all ages access to music-making, concerts, and education. The age range is four to 104 at the moment.
In addition, it features teaching studios, a broadcast and recording studio, rehearsal areas, and a 300-seat performance hall.
More than 200 contributors made the Stella Boyle Smith-named initiative possible.
The ASO started its initial approval process for the project in 2019, and it took four years to complete.
ASO Music Director Geoffrey Robson stated, “The Board of Directors approved the plan to raise originally $9 million turned into $11.75 million.”
Through this initiative, a home and a center were established.
“In our 59-year history, this is our first home,” Littlejohn remarked.
Every square inch of this new house was designed with the best possible usage and purpose for mission expansion and education in mind.
According to Robson, “We anticipate this will play a major role in the community.” “Just promoting music’s power and love.”
With more than 100 pupils and symphony members from 33 different counties, Robson anticipates the district will keep expanding.
Robson stated, “This was intended to be a very safe and approachable place where people could come and be creative.”
Presented by Simmons Bank, the event featured family activities, guided tours, live performances, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
