An announcement of retirement made by the long-time men’s basketball coach at Harding
Little Rock, Arkansas – The long-time men’s basketball coach at Harding University has given notice that he will be retiring soon.
Jeff Morgan, who has served as the head coach of the Harding men’s basketball team for the past 30 years, revealed on Tuesday that he plans to step down from his position at the conclusion of the 2022-2023 basketball season. Morgan has every intention of carrying on in his current capacity as the athletic director of the school.
With 448 career victories, Morgan is the winningest coach in the history of Harding College and ranks fourth in the state of Arkansas among college coaches in terms of career victories.
2011 was the year that Morgan’s team finished the season ranked 11th in the nation. Additionally, under the coach’s tutelage, Harding won the regular season conference championship in 2008, 2013, and 2016. His team in 2014 went into the GAC Tournament as the No. 5 seed and ended up winning the championship.
Mike Williams, the president of Harding, made the point that Morgan’s achievements go well beyond his sporting victories.
“Jeff Morgan has led Harding basketball through a storied era where the Rhodes-Reaves Field House became legendary in NCAA Division II,” Williams said. “But his legacy extends far beyond building a program. He mentored men who are great husbands and fathers, tremendous leaders and Spirit-led disciples.”
