Little Rock, Arkansas – The construction of a commemorative clock tower to be placed on the campus of the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton (UACCM) has begun.

The tower will be built on the west campus, positioned between the Student Union and University Center, according to UACCM officials.

With a height of 45 feet, the tower is expected to become a landmark not only on campus but also in the Morrilton skyline. A set of steps at the college’s base will bear the college’s prior names—Petit Jean Vo-Tech, Petit Jean Technical College, and Petit Jean College—in remembrance of its past.

The University Center and Library Complex of the college was intended to be complemented by the tower’s pinnacle. The names of the benefactors will be inscribed on a sequence of brick pavers that will be placed around the base. It will soon be possible for both individuals and businesses to buy pavers.

The UACCM Foundation is providing funding for the project, which was created by SCM Architects’ Ken Amburgy.

A clock tower on campus was first proposed in 2011, the year of the college’s 50th anniversary. The current tower was designed based on original concepts created at that time by students Julianne Razo and Jason Scruggs.
