Construction workers in North Little Rock battle the heat

North Little Rock, Arkansas – Everyone in Arkansas is feeling the heat, but especially those who spend a lot of time outside working. Those working on construction sites claim they are doing their best given the extreme heat.

Dalton Deyer, a plumber for five years, claimed that working outside this summer has been excruciating.

“It feels like 100 degrees for sure,” Deyer said. “It just kind of came out of nowhere but that’s Arkansas it’s going to come out and then humidity.”

Deyer claimed that he wears several shirts to work since the heat causes him to perspire a lot.

James Barber, a Trim Carpenter, finds that one of the major obstacles is becoming wet with sweat because it goes in his eyes and requires additional hydration.

“Just drink lots of water because you’re going to sweat a lot and you don’t want to shut down,” he said.

Workplace stress, according to Deyer, can lead to bad behavior.

“You get a little sick every day because it’s too hot and you’re just tired,” Deyer said.

He advised taking breaks for food and water in order to stay out of any potentially hazardous circumstances.

“You always see a lot of people hurt themselves or heat stroke, just not being able to finish the week because it’s too hot and going slow and getting a water break is worth it in the long run,” Deyer said.

Everyone who works outside, according to Deyer, should drink plenty of water, pack a fan, and don’t be afraid to take breaks.
