Little Rock, Arkansas – Several people are getting ready to enjoy a turkey for their family supper as the week of giving thanks gets underway on Monday.

Because of Cargill and Butterball, Arkansas is now the third-best state in the nation for turkey production.

Asa Hutchinson, the governor, declared this to be Arkansas Turkey Week on Monday.

Officially, Hutchinson spared two, somewhat loud, turkeys from the Thanksgiving menu.

“I am delighted to pardon these two turkeys today, Randy and George so they can continue to enjoy life and continue to make their speeches across Arkansas,” Hutchinson said.

Jackson Barber, a Cabot resident who participates in 4-H and FFA, raised both Randy and George.

For the holidays, Barber will take Randy and George home.
