Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, questioned regarding a 1957 photo
Little Rock, Arkansas – Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, was the subject of inquiries relating to a 1965 photograph of him taken outside a high school during the civil rights struggle.
Jones, an Arkansan, was captured in a photograph in 1957 with a group of white students who appeared to be blocking a group of Black students from entering North Little Rock High School.
An Associated Press photojournalist took the image during the same school year when federal troops were stationed at Little Rock Central High School.
Jones, a sophomore at NLRHS, was just 15 years old.
After the Cowboys’ game on Thanksgiving, the 80-year-old owner of the team discussed the situation.
“Look, look, that was 65 years ago, and I had no idea when I walked up there, what we were doing,” Jones explained.
“That was, gosh, 65 years ago, a curious kid.”
Jones claimed that he arrived to observe the situation rather than join the encircling throng. “I didn’t know at the time the monumental event, really, that was going on and I’m sure glad that we’re a long way from that,” Jones said. “Nobody there had any idea frankly what was going to take place.”
