Little Rock’s I-30 bridge construction is almost finished, and local companies hope it will attract more clients

Little Rock, Arkansas – After enduring route changes and road closures, businesses and employees on Interstate 30 are prepared for the construction to end.

Since 2020, work has been underway to build the Interstate 30 Arkansas River Bridge, which will link Little Rock and North Little Rock. According to representatives of the Arkansas Department of Transportation, the bridge will open in three stages.

Co-owner of the restaurant Kevin Doroski stated, “We are really excited about opening that up. It seems like there’s just always been a little bit of congestion right there on I-30.”

In order to allow workers to open and reopen ramps and get ready for the new traffic pattern, phase one of the project starts in early October and involves diverting westbound traffic from I-30 onto Cypress Street in North Little Rock and the southbound frontage road in Little Rock.

The Broadway Street on-ramp, 4th Street off-ramp, and I-630 westbound on-ramp will all open during phase one. Both the Bishop Lindsey Avenue on-ramp and the 6th Street off-ramp will be closed.

Then, in phase two, which is scheduled for completion in the middle of October, all six lanes of the new I-30 westbound river bridge will be open to traffic, but westbound traffic will still be detoured.

In order for workers to get ready for new traffic patterns when all six lanes of the I-30 eastbound river bridge open to traffic, phase three of the construction will be finished in early November, in the meantime, traffic on I-30 eastbound will be diverted onto the northbound frontage road in Little Rock and North Locust Street in North Little Rock.

Draft + Table, Doroski’s restaurant, is situated on Broadway Street in Argenta. This is one of the locations where the orange barrels and road closures will start to be lifted, facilitating easier transportation for everyone.

“You know our staff is having trouble getting in, not just for coming and going here for the customers,” Doroski remarked.

There have been issues with traffic and construction for those going on 4th Street, especially in the East End neighborhood of Little Rock.

Quinton Cage stated, “I think it will help out a lot with this area. Dealing with the traffic in this area has been a lot.”

Cage, who commutes to East End every day for work, claims that he feels as though there are many routes and monthly traffic closures while the bridge is being built. He’s relieved that it’s all about to stop.

Additionally, Doroski hopes that as the construction comes to a conclusion and access to the areas improves, the number of clients will rise.

Doroski remarked, “I’m just excited to have some new faces here.”
