The band from Little Rock Southwest High School triumphs greatly in the Delta Classic Battle of the Bands
Little Rock, Arkansas – Taryn Dotson and her fellow band members from Supersonic Storm of Southwest were motivated to win over 30 trophies by their love and passion for a particular harmony.
“Go for it if you’re thinking about taking up music; it’s much greater than what people think and can carry them far in life,” Dotson said.
The band is now staking claim to the titles of top Auxiliary in the Delta Classic Field show competition and top overall band in Division 1.
The percussion instructor, Davon Wilson, calls the event just amazing.
“Wow, we just walked away with it. We know how many hours and what the students went through to get there,” Wilson remarked.
The band members claimed that everyday motivation and endless rehearsal hours are what keep them focused.
Many claimed that without their band director, Jose Holloway, it would not be feasible.
“I don’t give up, I don’t let them believe what the outside world tries to tell them—that a school with a majority of people of color cannot be great,” Holloway declared.
Since the school’s inception, he has been leading the band, dedicating a great deal of time and attention to his players, and he takes great pride in seeing them achieve their just rewards.
“I wanted to give them a feeling that, hopefully, will stick with them for the rest of their lives—that, if only for this instant, makes them the star of the show,” Holloway said.
Holloway is extending an invitation to the community to participate in their yearly Kranksgiving Battle of the Bands on November 3.
