The Christmas season begins with a tree lighting ceremony
Monette, Arkansas – People are starting to get into the Christmas mood now that Thanksgiving has passed, and in Monette, the festivities began on Sunday night.
On November 26, the city had a tree-lighting event during which local churches presented a nativity scenario acted out by kids. Christmas music, hot chocolate, and much more were present.
According to Mayor Bob Blankenship, locals attach particular significance to occasions like this.
“Well, it is just a group of people coming together that want to celebrate not just the festive time and the bright lights but celebrate the time of our lord and savior being born this time of year,” he said.
According to Blankenship, their small community enjoys decorating the main strip with lights over the holidays to create a joyful atmosphere.
