Deputy from Benton County is arrested and accused of sexual assault
Little Rock, Arkansas – According to spokeswoman Lt. Shannon Jenkins, a Benton County sheriff’s officer was fired on Wednesday after being charged with sexual assault.
The second-degree charge of sexual assault against Matthew Cline resulted in his arrest. He was given a $20,000 bail.
After Sheriff Shawn Holloway learned of a claim that Cline had inappropriate behavior toward another employee, the sheriff’s office launched an investigation into Cline last week.
The same day, Holloway fired Cline and filed proceedings to have him decertified.
After reviewing the evidence, the Benton County prosecutor’s office had a warrant for his arrest issued.
“Sheriff Holloway is deeply disturbed by the actions of one of his employees and does not condone this type of behavior,” Jenkins wrote in a news release.
