Arkansas State women’s golf tied for 2nd after Day 1 of First Coast Classic

It’s not the snow that Northeast Arkansas is experiencing, but inclement weather in Jacksonville has suspended play in the second round of the First Coast Classic with the Arkansas State women’s golf team tied for second in the 12-team field.

A-State posted a first round 292 (+4) to enter the second round third in the team standings. With play suspended midway through the second round, the Red Wolves had surged to a tie for second at 4-under on round. Troy leads at 3-under while host North Florida is tied with the Red Wolves at even-par. FIU (+4) and South Alabama (+5) round out the top five.

Sydni Leung leads the Red Wolves individually as she is tied for fifth at 2-under par. She carded a 2-under par 70 in the first round and is even through 12 holes in the second round. Olivia Schmidt turned in a first round 1-over 73, but is 2-under through 10 holes in the second round to stand eighth overall.

Playing as an individual, Maria Jose Atristain Vega is tied for ninth at even-par. She posted a 1-under par 71 in the first round and is 1-over through 10 holes in the second round. Elise Schultz (T14 | +1) and Grayson Gladden (T19 | +2) are also in the top 20 while Kayla Burke is tied for 48th at 8-over.

Weather in Jacksonville is forecasted to allow for the completion of the second round as well as the third round on Tuesday. Play is scheduled to resume at 6:45 a.m. (CT) at Deerwood Country Club.
