Educator from Conway High School sent to Vietnam after receiving a Fulbright Award

Conway, Arkansas – Leslee Tell, a teacher at Conway High School, received the Fulbright U.S. Distinguished Teaching Award and will now travel to Vietnam as part of the Fulbright Teacher Exchanges program.

Tell is one of 20 Americans who will travel to 10 different nations as part of the program as recipients of the Fulbright award.

The Fulbright Program, which is financed by citizens of the United States and its worldwide partner nations, is the government of the United States’ premier international educational exchange program.

More than 400,000 individuals from more than 160 nations have had the chance to study, teach, do research, exchange ideas, and help find answers to common global issues thanks to the Fulbright Program, which was established in 1946.

Nobel Prize winners, Pulitzer Prize winners, and former heads of state or government are among the many Fulbright alums. Tell was delighted to get the prize and felt honored.

“My reaction was just pure joy and excitement,” Tell said. “I was overwhelmed to think I made it. What a huge honor…especially since William J. Fulbright was from Arkansas.”

At Conway High School’s Area Career Center, Tell currently holds the positions of department chair for the family and consumer sciences and nutrition and dietetics instructor.

“Mrs. Tell works incredibly hard to give her students top-notch training and practical, real-life experience in the fields of nutrition and dietetics,” Conway High School Principal Buck King said. “She has built a world-class program that Conway High School is extremely proud of. Our students are incredibly lucky to have her as a teacher and mentor.”

Since 2006, Tell has been a teacher in the Conway School District, where she has also received a large number of grants and honors.
