Threat prompts “soft lockdown” at the high school

Jonesboro, Arkansas – In response to an internet threat, Westside Consolidated school administrators said on Monday that their high school was in “soft lockdown.”

District authorities announced that the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office was conducting an investigation alongside the district’s administrators and student resource officers in a news release that was posted on social media.

According to the message, the district put the school on a soft lockdown after becoming aware of a potential threat spreading on social media.

The threat, according to superintendent Scott Gauntt, was comparable to one that Nettleton Public Schools got only last week.

He declared that extra security measures had been put in place at all three sites and that they were treating the threat “seriously.”

He described how pupils are kept inside and the doors are kept secured during a soft lockdown.

The district will “continue to monitor the situation throughout the day,” according to Gauntt.
