Little Rock, Arkansas – According to a new report, food insecurity is highest in Arkansas among the US states.

According to a U.S. Department of Agriculture report published in October, Arkansas has the greatest risk of food insecurity in the nation, with 214,140 households, or 16.6% of the population, experiencing food insecurity between 2020 and 2022.

The rate in Arkansas increased by 2.8% from the rate in 2017 to the rate in 2019.

According to the survey, 87.2% of American homes have enough food on hand to sustain each member of the household leading an active and healthy life.

This indicates that at some time in the year, 12.8% of American households experienced food insecurity.

“Making sure no Arkansan goes hungry, especially children, is a top concern for the Governor,” said Alex Hanning, the spokesperson for Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders. “She signed legislation during her first session that gives students who previously qualified for reduced meals, breakfast, and lunch for free.”

Henning said the governor recently visited the Arkansas Foodbank to “commemorate September as Arkansas Rice Month where she met with members of her cabinet, the Arkansas Foodbank, and farmers to discuss efforts on reducing food insecurity.”
