Non-profit organization located in Central Arkansas wants to provide a bed for every child

Conway, Arkansas – A charitable organization in central Arkansas has taken it upon themselves to ensure that every child has a safe and secure place to sleep.

One bed at a time, Sleep in Heavenly Peace is assisting families in need, and one mother in Conway expressed her gratitude for the fact that each of her six children now has their very own bed.

Jalishia Wallace, a mother of six children, believed that it was important for each of her children to have their own bed. As a result, she submitted an application to the SHP requesting that they construct beds for all of her children.

“A friend sent me a link on Facebook and I filled the form out and I didn’t think it was real, but it was,” Wallace said.

Wallace inquired about the ways in which her family was coping with the shortage of beds.

“Most of the time they want to sleep together or with me,” Wallace said.

Wallace shared that it was difficult for her to afford six beds as a single mother, but she believed her children deserved their own so they could sleep in the manner that best suited them.

Tammy Wright, president of the SHP chapter in Vilonia, stated that children in need of beds are frequently overlooked.

“There are children in our towns and all across America going without beds,” Wright said. “People often don’t think about whether a child has a bed to sleep in.”

Wright stated that the Vilonia chapter of SHP was founded in April of 2022. She also stated that despite the fact that their chapter’s headquarters are located in Vilonia, they provide assistance to people living in Conway as well. She stated that she was unsure of what the response would be but that they have received a consistent number of applications.

“We steadily get applications in for beds, we just built 56 beds,” Wright said.

Wright stated that they have been able to purchase their equipment and build the beds from the ground up in the homes of those who are in need because of the generous donations they have received.

“We raised about $25,000 and that was raised by the Conway Area Leadership Institute Class of 2022,” Wright said.

Wright explained the reasons why she thinks it’s essential for children to have their own beds.

“We don’t think about their self-esteem and their confidence that they need from waking up in bed every morning,” Wright said.

Wright stated that she intends to continue their work in the future and that she is hoping to receive additional donations so that they can expand their efforts to cover the entirety of Faulkner County.

Wallace expressed her appreciation to the individuals for their service.

“This is even better for them to have their personal space,” Wallace said.
