Mayor Frank Scott Jr. and Governor Sanders discuss Little Rock tornado damage

Little Rock, Arkansas – At a press conference held at Little Rock Fire Department Station 9 at 1324 N Shackleford Road to discuss the tornado damage that happened in Little Rock, Arkansas, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr. spoke.

The destructive tornado that made landfall on Friday afternoon struck a number of locations in Little Rock and other parts of central Arkansas.

Gov. Sanders took the time to thank the firefighters for their efforts in aiding the neighborhood and attempting to save lives.

“I am so thankful and so proud of the heroic efforts of the firemen that are located here at this station,” Sanders said. “who as the tornado came through, worked to protect and bring members of the community into a safe space. And as soon as it passed immediately went to work caring for our community.”

Regarding the storm, Sanders also spoke with President Joseph Biden and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas by phone.

“This morning, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders spoke by phone with the Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas to discuss response and recovery efforts in Arkansas, following Friday’s devastating tornados. The Governor thanked the Secretary for his outreach and for his commitment to get the State of Arkansas any resources that are needed quickly. Governor Sanders relayed that she would be touring damage in central Arkansas today and would keep the federal government apprised of any aid requests.”

“This morning, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders and President Joe Biden spoke by phone and discussed the damaging tornadoes and severe weather that moved across Arkansas yesterday. The President expressed his support for the people of Arkansas and emphasized that the federal government stands ready to assist. Governor Sanders thanked the President for the close coordination of his team and for the Administration’s commitment to aiding response and recovery efforts across central Arkansas and in Wynne. The Governor told the President that Arkansans are resilient people and would rebuild stronger than before.”

At the conference, Mayor Frank Scott also gave a speech assuring the public that efforts are being made to respond as swiftly as possible.

“We continue to ask that everyone remain prayerful, we know faith without work is dead so there’s going to be a lot of working going on,” Mayor Scott said. “We ask that everyone be patient as we’re working to respond as quickly as possible to all the needs as we move forward together.”

The public has been actively informed by Mayor Scott about the actions and measures the city is taking.

He has been tweeting updates on closures and ways to support the neighborhood.

“As dawn breaks we start the long process of recovery and rebuilding. Little Rock is resilient & we will rebound stronger. Thanks to all first responders and volunteers.” Mayor Scott said in a tweet. “I’m starting my morning with our public works crews who are going out in the community to clear streets and remove debris to assist residents and utilities.
