Police detain a woman in a school bus incident who is accused of driving recklessly and putting youngsters at risk
Little Rock, Arkansas – Jonesboro police detained a woman who they said was attempting to obstruct a school bus and struck children with her car.
Judge Tommy Fowler of Craighead County District Court filed charges against Dmeko Charaeell Winfield, 34, including three counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, first-degree reckless driving, two counts of aggravated assault on a family or household member, causing fear of imminent injury, and obstructing traffic for cars or pedestrians.
According to an affidavit, Winfield and a Valley View School District bus were causing trouble, so police were called. Officers were able to gather footage throughout the investigation that showed Winfield driving erratically before overtaking the bus in a no-passing zone.
She then began yelling at school employees and slamming the bus door with her hand. In an attempt to stop the bus from going, she was observed forcibly repositioning two of her kids in front of it.
Next, Winfield got into the driver’s seat of her car, put it in reverse, and sped in the direction of the bus and her kids.
“On the video, Winfield is seen striking the two victims, placing her vehicle in the park then exiting and begin gesturing towards the bus in an agitated manner,” police said.
Winfield was freed after posting a $10,000 surety and cash bond. The 29th of March is her next scheduled court date.
