State representatives are excited to show off Arkansas and welcome eclipse tourists

Little Rock, Arkansas – On April 8th, Arkansas will be treated to the great American eclipse, attracting numerous visitors to central Arkansas for an exceptional view. The Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism offers valuable tips and insights for this significant event.

Secretary of the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism, Shea Lewis, notes that the combination of springtime and Arkansas’ geographical location makes the Natural State an optimal destination for experiencing this celestial phenomenon.

“It’s exciting because we know the proximity of our state to lots of visitors and guests in the region who have easy access to Arkansas,” Lewis said. “So, whether that’s coming on I-40, I-30 or Interstate 55, or flying, as well, Arkansas is a very easy state to get to.”

And the encouraging news is, irrespective of your location within the state, you will have a front-row view.

“Totality basically runs from Texarkana to Jonesboro,” Lewis said.

Lewis stated that a ton of activities are scheduled to enhance the memory of this occasion.

“Russellville is putting on an event called Blues, Balloons and Barbecue,” Lewis said. “NASA is also going to be there for that event. Hot Springs is working with Atlas Obscura on a music festival and culture festival to take place there, as well.”

And the state is urging guests to stay awhile to make the most of the occasion.

“Spend a few days just enjoying the outdoor recreation opportunities within the state or visiting some of our historic sites or culture sites, museums, shopping, enjoying the things that Arkansas has to offer,” Lewis said. “Come early, stay late, enjoy the food and hospitality that our state has to offer.”

Over 100 miles will be covered by the path of totality across Arkansas. More than four minutes of complete darkness will be experienced by spectators in some places.

Lewis stated that, particularly in the areas surrounding our major cities, there are still many of hotel rooms and Airbnbs available.
